A dream I had

I never remember my dreams.

I was camping with friends, though who I can't quite tell. I set up my tent and unrolled my sleeping bag, and tried to get into the tent. It was super small, only a one person tent and the roof was too low, and my sleeping bag extended out the front door of the tent because I'm tall. I forgot my thermarest. I was kind of anxious.

But I got in anyways, and it turned out to be totally cozy and nice and there was nothing wrong in the world, and then I went out and talked and helped all my pals setup their tents and sat around a campfire.

That's it. It is kind of amazing that I remember anything at all.

The French Laundry

So. I went. It surpassed the hype, blew me away at every turn, and was, without question, the meal of a lifetime.

A few weeks back, Carrie & David, pals in LA, invited me to come with them to The French Laundry for Carrie's birthday, and I immediately accepted. I have a foodie pal here in SF named J, and his response was the same when I invited him to eat with us. We drove up early morning on a rainy misty wet cold Saturday, all met inside, bundles of nerves about culture, food and expectations. I'd never done such a meal, and I'm obviously now spoiled forever.

Here's a start at just transcribing the menu. I'll update here as there are photos and as I can describe more. I ate from the left hand "Tasting of Vegetables," and at each point there was a choice, I chose the first option. All my pals ate from the Chef's TastingMenu.

One thing to note for anyone interested in going. I can't strongly enough recommend going with friends and being nice. Our server was an American named Dennis, and while service was superlative, the best part of the meal was his ability to work with us and to be casual when needed. I think as a couple, there would have been too much pressure to "get it" all. We just went, and had fun!

The meal.
