Good Stuff

Dear Diary-

Ahh, my fickle mistress has done it to me again. San Francisco has put out in all the best of ways.

After ditching work early on Friday afternoon to get a new toy, i lounged in the calm summer night at a BBQ w/ Stephen & possee, drinking cheap beer and enjoying being outdoors.

Saturday consisted of being really hot, drinking lots of iced espresso, two fisiting it with Lillet, helping dad with tech support (success at last!) and fetching nice plants for elly. Since it was a blisteringly hot summer day, we got Tuggy and did the only logical thing, we went to a movie! Nice summer air conditioning and Clerks II. Fun stuff. Brian & I then had a beer at Molotovs, got some indian food, and then watched this amazing Atom Egoyan film at his house. friends are great.

Sunday was also bloody hot. After frustratingly playing with said new toy, I decided to get Boogaloo's and eat it at Ritual, which turned out great since there were water guns, fan assembly and general mission experiences to be had. At some point, we hatched a plan, and before I knew it, elly, Eileen, Davel, Kristen, Ian & I were all jammed into the biodieseldunnymobile headed to Baker Beach. Ian's parking karma totally saved the day, and we waltzed out onto the beach with pink champagne, crackers, dolmas, peaches, ginger snaps and caesar salads. I dashed into the ocean at two points. At one point, I actually experienced shock from the depth & extent of the freezing cold Pacific. Much lazing about was to be had, but the best thing was just being with friends. I like people.

There was then a bunch of happy chauffeurring about, some takeout Thai food from Bangkok 16, and lots of coziness. elly & I rented Narnia, which was more overtly religious than I even could have imagined, but still sweet and made me very happy to remember those childhood moments of reading the books.

And to top it all off, after finding a good parking spot at 1 in the morning, I just passed the open window of a happily snoring person. I hope you're sleeping great pal!!

Good night San Francisco!

Today, after my breakfast meeting, I stood on the corner of Broadway & Bleecker, trying to figure out how the hell to get up the the upper West Side, since I can never get up there. I pulled out elly's NFT, unfolded the subway map, and within seconds was prompted "can I help you get somewhere?" It kills me everytime. I feel like a schmuck for not knowing where I'm going, but I'm also so constiently impressed by the kindness of strangers in NYC.

So this guy offers me directions. I poo poo him immediately, pride fully bristling, "Oh, I'm just trying to get UWS; I'll take the A/C to Columbus Circle, and transfer to the 1/2/3 there." He responds with something along the lines of "That'll work, but let me know if you want to know the best way to get there." This immediately knocks down all of my defenses, since I'm a sucker for a better route.

Juan ends up carefully walking me halfway across into the West Village, regaling me with stories about the first day he set foot in New York, 46 years ago, having left a small town of 2,000 in Cuba. He recalled Idlewild Airport, "you know, before Kenedy was president", the love he has of the village, and more. Today is his daughter's birthday (exactly six months from mine), and did I know that she lived in San Francisco for a while?

It was wonderful. He had to walk slowly because of a recent surgery, and my hurry to get to a lunch date just vanished. We ambled on his way to the NYU library, swapping stories.

Sometimes, it's good to stop and smell the flowers.

Lots of good things are happening

Hello Internets!

Lots of good things have been happening to and around me, and I want to tell you about them! For starters, it's almost one in the morning, and I'm eating blueberry COFFEECAKE! Yum!

For the last few weeks I (not a sports fan) have been hanging out with Tuggy at his super nice house with fancy TV, watching world cup football. It's been fun to have a little weekend routine, and see pals there, and just generally be silly. I don't really care who wins any of the games (I was rooting for France, but oh well), it's just nice to be with friends. Today, I went to the big raging event in Dolores Park, in the middle of SF and sat with pals Stephen & Eumi. It was amazing! This one Randomly Awesome Guy rented a huge LED display, for thousands to gather and watch and have fun. It was a great community moment. I picked up some trash, too.

Last weekend, Ms elly was away on adventures, so I headed down to Santa Cruz for a fun outdoor hippie dancing party situation. It worked out fabulously. I was able to exercise my dancing feet and my brain, both of which very much needed it. The DJs were rockin it, and the redwood trees surrounded us in the perfect grove. All in a city park with kids playing little league across the street! My main motivateion, as always was to see Lorin spin, but it turns out that Lorin & Ooah are both pretty damned amazing! Good stuff all over. I got some good ideas for Burning Man costumes and otherwise. When the sun finally set, I got my wish and Ian, eddie & I ended up at Saturn Cafe. We embarassed the hell out of eddie with birthday singing, but I think the espresso/chocolate/ice cream shake made up for it all. Top that off with a solo drive up Highway 1 in the middle of the empty Sunday night? Good stuff, I say!

I think summertime is doing good things for my mood. What do you think? ;) I've been more socialable, including making new friends (I made one today!). A few weeks back elly introduced me to her new astrologer pal Ian. It turns out he's awesome! He brought the people together for the solstice party, and came down to have fun in Santa Cruz as well. We had a good day of general carrousing and enjoying nature. mm fresh air! It's been a while since I've made new pals, and I have to say I'm hopeful about the world because of this Ian character!

After all of this goodness, elly & I went on a super fun Ghost Hunt for Gus' birthday last night, and then to an amazing False Profit party. ab got everyone to really make it all happen. I'm hoping there will be pictures sometime soon. It was the sort of night where you take a disco-break, have some hot cocoa or tea (mental note: buy more of this awesome Green Tea Kombucha), then head back out into the world at 1am. We drove all the way hell to some random field, parked super far away, and then walked through what seemed like miles of tall grass. And Then. And then we got closer, and started to hear the beats. I got The Feeling. We all but ran out to the dancefloor as the dirty dirty dirty breaks started coming. They kept coming over and over. We walked to see amazing views, chatted with people, and I swear the whole place turned into some intensely tribal shit. It was off the hook in ways that only an underground outdoor can be. It gave me hope, yet again. Finally, sometime around 4 or 5, our feets gave out. We had a fun random adventure to Safeway (owww! bright lights! oww! sunglasses! oww!) for yummy late-night bagels, then all sleep all the time.

This week, elly & I are going to New York to see Elena get married!!! I am somewhat aprehensive about the rest of the trip, as it has been sometime since Brooklyn has held me in her arms, but I'm sure it will be hot, filled with iced coffees, and awesome.

And then the week after, we're going to a really fun campout with tons of SF pals!

There is nothing wrong in this whole wide world!
