Rendez-Vous: Paris Car Insanity

Hi. This is a few decades old, but new to me. I think it's utterly amazing. A 7 minute film from 1976 made of a F1 driver covering Paris city streets in a Ferarri 275 GTB at breakneck speeds (some calculations say 136mph+). It is jaw-dropping. Make sure you hear the sounds as he takes his turns.

Credit where it's due: I found out about this from this blog post, which offers a link to the film itself. The film is available for purchase as well, but if the copy should fall off of the internet, let me know...

Tree Trimming!

Tonight, we had a fairly random impromptu tree trimming holiday party thinger. We invited a few pals, and I only wish we'd invited more people! It was a total success: the intention was to be low key & crafty, and it happened! People made things, chatted, oggled Franklin the kitten, and just generally hung out. A-OK. Thanks Pals!

The big events of the night were the massive garland making operation in the living room, and the NogMaster slaving over a 190 degree stove, creating some incredibly tasty home made egg nog, from scratch! Yum!

Also, of note: yesterday was 1 month from elly's surgery, and I am really happy to report that she's doing great! NYC for SANTACON next weekend. I've worked pretty much every day since the week before Thanksgiving, so that will be a nice break!

blah, blah, blah. you want pictures, right??? :)

The TREE! So many good things happened. elly made pomanders, everyone worked together to make a Popcorn & Cranberry Garland

elly hand made a wreath for the front door! Awesomeness!

I bought a whole mess of LED Christmas lights from the internet, and they only sort of worked out, but here they are!

jra & da brought us a beautiful ornament for our tree! awww, thanks! :)

After the party wound down, and a drive by Nogging to Ritual, elly & Franklin were both really tired.

Yes, he really is quite a cute cat. I got up early to work on a Sunday morning, and he sat with me, looking cute!

mysql GNU readline

here's how to get GNU readline support to work with mysql 4.0.X with freebsd's ports system:

  1. cd /usr/ports/devel/readline ; make ; make install
  2. vi /usr/ports/databases/mysql40-server/Makefile
    21a22
    > USE_GNU_READLINE=yes
    30c31
    < --without-readline \
    ---
    > --with-readline \

  3. vi /usr/ports/databases/mysql40-client/work/mysql-4.0.26/client/Makefile
    371c371
    < readline_link = $(top_builddir)/readline/libreadline.a
    ---
    > readline_link = /usr/local/lib/libreadline.a
    397c397
    < mysql_LDADD = $(top_builddir)/readline/libreadline.a
    ---
    > mysql_LDADD = $(readline_link) -lncurses $(LDADD) $(CXXLDFLAGS)

  4. cd /usr/ports/databases/mysql40-client ; make ; make install
  5. cd /usr/ports/databases/mysql40-server ; make ; make install
