Burningman

hi. I'm in the desert.

see you in a week or so.

hope I didn't forget anything.

walking about

I've spent the last few days wandering about San Francisco, and I've really enjoyed it, though I'm tired as hell now. I really should be working on my suit. *sigh*. My "d" key is mostly broken. please excuse all d-related typos.

Here's what I have to show! Today was fun!

I got roller skates!!!

We saw a crazy tree when we were walking up to Union Street back on Monday. wow!

vicious desert bears

I am avoiding packing for burningman.

I walked all the fuck over the damn city today.

I love coffee.

It appears that in 10 days, I will see the man burn for the sixth time. wow. I'm a old timer or something.

PS: watch out for vicious desert bears when in the dry arid high desert.

ode

An ode to San Francisco

I love your rolling hills, and your epic vistas
I love your beautiful fog and your lush parks.
I love your beaches and your coffee shops
I love your classic cars, your death-defying muni drivers
I love your tasty mexican food from La Rondalla to Pancho Villa to the Tamale Lady.
I love the people that you foster
I love the art they create that surrounds us all.

I don't know if I want to live here now, or forever, but I do know how much I love this fine city. It's the first place I ever felt like /me/, so long ago, and now I remember why.

-- update Saturday afternoon:

I also love Boogaloo's brunch so much:

can you tell? I ate it ALL!!

jet lag

hi! I'm in San Francisco! This is the second day in a row of sunny and warm! I can't believe it!

So much has happened since my last update, but suffice to say that I packed for burningman, packed for SF (and was a major stress case during both of those events), rented a few vehicles, got up really way too early, rode on a plane for 6 hours, and am now happily sitting in a sunny front room of a Mission apartment that is ours.

I'm having a really surreal experience by being here; everything seems eerily like it /should/ be, but everything is different. I'm so happy to be here with elly; I thought it would be so much weirder. Well, I take that back. I thought it would be weirder in different ways :). The weirdness is the normalcy of it all, I guess.

Yoko is here with us, and I can't believe that I lived my whole life without having a pet. The pure unconditional love that I have for that little white fluffy waking-me-up-in-the-morning beast is amazing.

Today, I hope to trade in my non-power-window-having-POS rental car, walk to many places, eat many tasty foods, and experience water. I solicit any and all SF requests, such as "boy, I really love eating crepes at Ti Couz, Oliver will you go eat there for me" and "gosh, I love going to the ocean; Oliver, will you go dip your toes in the Pacific for me?" text messages are best: pager (bat) oof.org.

now, coffeeeeee!

Randy's Farm

elly and I made Monday & Tuesday into our weekend. We rented a car last minute, and drove to the country. After some major problems getting the hell out of Queens, where road rage took over yet again, we got to the farm. We had a really fun and exciting evening full of laughter, stars (the Summer Triangle), games (let's taste everything in the fridge!), art arrainging and evaluation goodness.

It's trips like those that remind me why I love to be alive. They let me be present in my everyday life. They let me not obsess about planning for each and every moment of my future, and the really enjoy life. I wonder if it is some sort of message that I should live in nature? Definitely a message that I should have a dog!

I mowed a heart in the field for le! Tractor! Romance!

basically, the cutest picture ever taken

Jaxx is the best dog ever. Good for long walks, playing and more.

I went to the farm wanting this painting, but it's SO BIG

This was one of elly's favorites!

This is mine. the photo is crap, but I'm in love with the painting!

Later discussions focused on the meaning of the soul and virtue!

Open 24x7

The way NYC was meant to be.

This was a fun weekend. Days have started to merge into each other, Mondays becoming Saturdays, Fridays becoming Tuesdays.

Saturday was sleeping late, moping around the house, being self destructive and the like. elly took care of me, tucked me in and went off to work for the douches at Spirit. Eventually I got up, hopped a midnight train and met her there, where I was overwhelmed by the Jersey boys. It was actually scary.

We ran from the mega-club, heading to the safest, nicest bar in all of Manhattan, the site of our first date. We got there just in time for last call, and Joseph took care of us, giving us "our" booth, unprompted. Sometimes fate just takes charge and makes everything great.

We weren't quite tired, but bars were no longer an option, so: another (third of four!) taxi ride later, we went to see all the partiers doing their 5am eating. It's hip, it's packed, there's always a line at 4:01am, and their fries are yummy:

A final taxi ride home, and we saw the rising sun of morning. The perfect pink sky. We ran to the roof, trying to catch the already fleeting memory. It's not much, but it's all I've got:

Sunday had backyard sitting, and fun elly-biking in the park at night. Life ain't bad at all.
