State of Affairs

Hi.

Life's been pretty darned busy lately. The overwhelm of it all was starting to crest, but I think my body imposed a little bit of a break, and that's just fine with me.

After i-don't-know-how-many days of double digit work hours and 4-6 hours sleep per night, I just gave up. Friday night I went to bed "for a nap" around 8pm and woke up a good 12 hours later. That's good stuff. Then I did it again on Saturday. Bed by 10:30, a good 10+ hours in. It is really a sad state of affairs that sleep trumps social and drinking and funtimes, but goddamn, you gotta slow down once in a while. Saturday was full of mundane and satisfying errands, followed by some sillyness and the Simpsons movie.

Today was such an amazing San Francisco day; I woke up early deep in the white mist of deep summer fog here, freezing under the comforter. The world seemed very much winter, and about as far from the last weekend in July as possible. Layering up, I endured the lines at Tartine for an amazingly sweet sticky hot morning bun, all the while seeing a whole new installation there. (lazyweb, help! I want to link to fotos!) The walls are white and there's a geometric light blue pattern crawling across the walls and onto the ceiling, with occasional green outlines. The whole thing was really quite amazing and the light in the space made me feel like I was clearly in northern Europe; some amazing Scandinavian shop on a fjord or something.

Then down to Ritual, sitting with a regular, having a strange drink, and enjoying Watergate Sue in the funny pages. By the time I emerged, the sun was beating down, summer had arrived and the wold was bright and cheery!

This past Wednesday, I put elly on the plane to INDIA; what a weird concept to fly somewhere such that you land and it's a day and a half later on the clock. So far away. I'm psyched that I got to call her in Varnasi; good to hear my sweetie's voice :). Travel. Man, that sounds nice. I'd sure like a break from working, and I've only been back at it for 3-4 months.

Snowden on the stereo; found them at Gimmie last time I was in Brooklyn. Sigh. New York. "You didn't have much to say / but you were beautiful anyway".. Do me a favor and go watch the video for Anti-Anti. Its cliched, but I love it!
