Weekend At The CottageMy two favorite places on Earth are Black Rock City and my cottage in Michigan. I've spent at least some time there every single summer (except for one) of my life. I managed to grab a last minute flight to go there for a few days in 2004. I'm really happy when I get to go there because I gain a whole new perspective on whatever challenges or decisions I have to make in my life. I can remember deciding what high school to attend while I was at the cottage, pondering jobs to take, and now trying to figure out what the hell to do with my life. I never know what I will feel when I get there, but I always know that there will be some revelation about something. It is a really magical place for me; there are deep woods, and long open beaches, with a nice house in between! My favorite view there is unphotographed, and I prefer to keep it that way. Because the cottage is off in the middle of nowhere, there's really no light polution at night except for the neighbors. On non weekend nights, there really aren't any neighbors, so the sky is REALLY black. This Sunday night was especially good, since there was only a sliver of moon out. I stood outside at 3am, taking an outside shower, and could see the entirety of the Milky Way, with the naked eye. Yay stars :) I took a boatload of pictures, but here's a small sampling:
